UFO or UAPs are genuine of myth?

Objects photographed over Tulsa, Oklahoma on 12.07.47: Daily World

Beyond the Horizon

The unidentified flying object (UFO) sighted by Private pilot Kenneth Arnold on 24.06.1947 was first to see a string of nine shiny unidentified flying objects (UFOs) flying past Mount Rainier at estimated speeds, according to him, at a minimum of 1,932 km/hr). This wa first post-World War-II sighting in the United States that garnered nationwide news coverage and is credited with being the first of the modern era of UFO sightings, including numerous reported sightings over the next two to three weeks.

Arnold’s description of the objects also led to the press quickly coining the terms flying saucer and flying disc as popular descriptive terms for UFOs.

On June 24, 1947, Arnold that day was flying from Chehalis to Yakima in Washington in a CallAir A-2 on a clear sky on a business trip. He made a brief detour after learning of a $5,000 reward for discovery of a U.S. Marine Corps C-46 transport airplane that had crashed near Mount Rainier.

He saw a bright flashing light, similar to sunlight reflecting from a mirror. Afraid he might be dangerously close to another aircraft, Arnold scanned the skies around him, but all he could see was a DC-4 to his left and behind him, about 24-km away.

About 30 seconds after seeing the first flash of light, Arnold saw a series of bright flashes in the distance off to his left, or north of Mount Rainier, which was then from 32 to 40-km away. He thought they might be reflections on his airplane’s windows, but a few quick tests (rocking his airplane from side to side, removing his eyeglasses, later rolling down his side window) ruled this out. The reflections came from flying objects.

They quickly approached Rainier and then passed in front, usually appearing dark in profile against the bright white snowfield covering Rainier, but occasionally still giving off bright light flashes as they flipped around erratically. Arnold described them as a series of objects with convex shapes, though he later revealed that one object and several years later he likened their movement to saucers skipping on water, without comparing their actual shapes to saucers, but initial quotes from him do indeed have him comparing the shape to a “saucer”, “disc”, “pie pan”, or “half moon”, or generally convex and thin.

A woman named Ethel Wheelhouse, hailing 97-km west-northwest of Richland in Yakima. also reported sighting several flying discs moving at fantastic speeds almost coinciding with Arnold’s sighting.

Military intelligence while investigating Arnold’s sighting in early July, found yet another witness from the area. A member of the Washington State forest service, who had been on fire watch at a tower in Diamond Gap, about 32-kmsouth of Yakima, reported seeing “flashes” exactly the same time as Arnold’s sighting.

On 11.06.23, a family in Las Vegas claimed that they saw something mysterious crash in their backyard, after a green flash in the sky. The family soon made a 911 call claiming to have seen “non-humans”, following which the cops rushed to the spot to investigate, as per a CNN report.

“We just see in the corner of our eye something fall down from the sky, and it was with lights, and when it hit down there was like a big impact, and we felt like an energy? And then we hear a lot of footsteps near us. And then – we have, like, big- big equipment, and we see there’s a, there’s like an eight-foot person beside it and another one’s inside, and it has big eyes and it’s looking at us. And they’re not human. One-hundred percent, they’re not human,” the caller said, as per ABC News.

Though the incident occurred on May 1, the Las Vegas Police Department recently released officers/ body camera footage that showed something streaking low across the sky. An officer corroborated the witness’s account, claiming that their partner had also observed something falling from the sky.

In June 2022, NASA had formed a 16-member panel  to investigate “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAPs) or UFOs sightings and evaluate data obtained from civilian, Govt and commercial sectors.

On 01.06.23, both NASA and defense-intelligence officials stressed that while the existence of intelligent alien life has not been ruled out,  but they have found no evidence suggesting an extraterrestrial origin for UFO sightings.

“To make the claim that we see something that is evidence of non-human intelligence would require extraordinary evidence, and we have not seen that,” NASA panel’s chairman, astrophysicist David Spergel, said. NASA’s 5 important revelations on UFOs are:

1)Everything is not UAP: As per the experts, data about UAP can be easily skewed, and this can lead to difficulties in interpretations. The NASA team gave example of a burst of radio waves that was noted by researchers in Australia. While this confused the researchers for a long time, it was later found that the sensitive instruments used by researchers were picking up signals from a microwave that they used to warm their lunches.

Meanwhile, Scott Kelly, a former astronaut and pilot with decades of experience, spoke about how optical illusions were often confused for UFOs. He cited an example of his co-pilot being convinced they spotted a UFO, only for it to be “Bart Simpson – a balloon.”
