Reduction in malaria cases in Arunachal laudable: ASRD

NAHARLAGUN, Oct 15: A three-day state review meeting on vector-borne diseases, organized by National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) and Arunachal Pradesh State Health Society begun here on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on evaluating various efforts to eliminate malaria and reviewed progress in combating vector-borne diseases.

Commending remarkable reduction in malaria cases across the state due to dedicated efforts of health officials and field staff, Shillong-Guwahati based Union additional senior regional director (ASRD) Dr. Juliana Lyngwa, in her presidential address, stressed importance of proper documentation to ensure smooth progress to receive malaria elimination certification.

Echoing sentiments of all participants and recognizing hard work and continuous efforts of all those involved in vector-borne disease control, director (Family Welfare) Dr. Amping Perme reiterated the department’s commitment to achieving malaria-free status for the state.

Assuring to ensure proper district-wise fund allocation for vector-borne disease control programmes, National Health Mission MD Marge Sora, in his address, urged all vector-borne staff to continue their hardwork to achieve the target of eliminating malaria from the state.

Addressing participating district programme officers, state and district consultants earlier, health services deputy director-cum-NCVBDC state programme officer (SPO) Dr. K.T. Mulung, gave comprehensive data of state’s current malaria status. 14 of total 25 districts of the state are now eligible for malaria-free certification marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts, he said.

However, all participants committed to continue their efforts to achieve the goal. The technical sessions for next two days would review strategies and develop actionable plans to accelerate the progress, according to an official release.
