* 5 hurt, 100 families turn roofless, over 150 houses & huge properties damaged

BANDERDEWA | Apr 28 | Strong cyclonic storm accompanied with hailstorm hit Papum Pare district and its adjoining parts of Assam hard on Thursday leaving a trail of devastation that injured five persons, turned 100 family roofless, damaged huge properties including over 150 houses.
The severe cyclone lashed Banderdewa circle, particularly Chessa-Sunajuli panchayat during 7.45 to 8.30 PM rampaged standing maize & rubber plantation crops, toppled large number of tall & battle nut trees, electric poles that snapped power supply, blocked roads and killed cattle.
Hitting hard dwelling houses, granaries, garage, out house, RCC buildings including school’s boys and girls hostels left the masses to fend for themselves while Chessa Van Vigyan Kendra officials awestricken with collapse of boundary walls.
Local MLA-cum-UD, LM Minister Nabam Rebia, on receipt of information, accompanied with officers took stock of the situation during foot march inspection in Chessa-I & II, Sunajuli, Chakma Block-8 areas.
While visiting most of the victimised families, especially roofless ones, Rebia consoled them and assured all possible help from the GoAP. He urged local leaders to extend physical help in rehabilitating them and directed accompanying Capital DC in-charge Talom Dupok to asses loss of damaged properties within a week for payment of compensation relief by disaster management department (DMD) immediately to facilitate their proper rehabilitation. He asked Balijan power sub-division AE Janu Tayeng to restore power supply within a week.
Addressing Assam-Arunachal press fraternity at Chessa, Rebia said that he will take up the matter with chief minister soon providing relief and expressed confidence that the GoAP will do its best. Referring to similar reports from different parts of his assembly constituency, he hinted about his inspection to those areas too.
This was one of the worst ever seen cyclone, he said and made a fervent plea to the officers and PRI leaders to work in synchronization to provide the much desired succour to all victims.
Reports of damages caused by the cyclone have been received. Five dwelling houses were partially damaged in Jote and Mokomoli villages under Sangdupota circle snapping of LT & HT power lines were totally uprooted which may take at least four to five days for restoration, power officials said.
Bassarnallo GS School boys hostel and standing crops were also damaged there, Upper Balijan ZPM Gollo Takam added.
Principal home secretary Satya Gopal, however, told this reporter, that they were informed about the damages caused by cyclone and referred to DMD for immediate consideration.
The officers & PRI Leaders included Banderdewa CO Pama Bagang, Lower Balijan ZPM Tana Puna Tara, Banderdewa councillor Tai Tasung, Chessa-Sunajuli ASM Chera Tubin.
