ITANAGAR | May 24 | Mumkin, an Itanagar based NGO, has initiated a campaign titled ‘Late Ngurang Tem Academic Sponsorship’ to sponsor an orphan/semi orphan for his/her studies, in an endeavor to impart formal education to the orphans and unprivileged children of state.

Planning secretary Dr Joram Beda after launching the campaign, themed ‘Beneath the roots, towards the fruits’ at a function here was on Wednesday, lauded the initiative of Mumkin and advocated more such programmes.

“There are many gifted children in our state who are not privileged enough to opt for further education while there are also a few who’s talent has not been fostered to the fullest, so Mumkin effort would go a long way in nurturing them and providing them with an opportunity to live up to their dreams,” Beda said.

Recalling the contributions of late Ngurang Tem, he added, “Our community, which was once termed as backward has come a long way in today’s date as we have numerous successful personalities among us in every field. We should not forget the contributions made by our ancestors like late Tem.”

Mumkin general secretary Tadar Niglar while giving an overview of the NGO asserted that it was ready to sponsors children who are talented and committed to learn.

“We will start by sponsoring one child now. However, we will try to cover as many children as many we could in future depending on our resources”, Niglar said, adding the NGO aims at keeping  late Tem’s legacy alive. If the child is worthy and talented enough we will not hesitate to sent him/her abroad for further studies, Niglar declared.

WRD EE Tadar Kadung (son-in-law) thanked Mumkin for its humanitarian effort. People have almost forgotten him. However, nothing gives us more happiness than to learn that a child will keep his bequest alive, Kadung said.

Born at the then un-separated Subansiri district on 01.04.3, late Tem served the state as a political interpreter, member of NEFA Social Welfare Advisory Board besides co-producer of  state’s first feature film Meri Maa Mera Dharam, but he passed away on 28.10.71.

However, criteria for sponsorship included the child has to be an orphan/semi orphan or handicap, should belong to BPL category with a minimum qualification of class-V pass etc. The sponsorship including hostel expenditures, admission fees etc would be limited to 10 years, or till graduation.

Late Tem’s family members were also present on the occasion.
