Rampant illegal trade exposed

TEZU | May 30 | Lohit forest division, apprehended four trucks loaded with 21 logs during intensified patrolling launched under DFO S Manyu’s supervision, a week after three truck with 17 logs were seized on May 23 last.
Two trucks were seized at 2 am today followed by two trucks and a tractor laden with logs at 7 am at Digaru tri-junction by a team led by ranger Ram Ering.
This confiscation has brought to limelight widespread illegal timber operation in the district.
Four truck drivers were arrested while tractor driver managed to flee in the darkness. The culprits were kept under forest custody for further interrogation, Manyu said, adding all staffs have been put on high alert and conducting patrolling round the clock to contain illegal timber trade. The department has also tightened its belt to apprehend timber smugglers to check fast depleting forest resources, the officer added.
