CM lauds Christian missionaries for major role in education growth


ITANAGAR | Aug 30 | Chief Minister Pema Khandu today lauded Christian missionaries for playing a major role in contributing to education growth in Arunachal.

He was address a function after inaugurating Don Bosco College (DBC) annex in Jollang here today, whose construction was funded through Rs 5 crore corpus fund sanctioned by former CM, late Dorjee Khandu.

Khandu commended the service of Christian missionaries, especially in taking education to the poorest and the downtrodden, in his address to the faculty members and students. He lauded contributions of RK Mission and the VKV in educational uplift of the state when it lacked no proper motorable roads.

Acknowledging the contribution of these missionaries, he assured the GoAP support to those institutes which had contributed to strengthening education level. He pledged his continued support to Don Bosco Youth Centre for its contribution in skilling state’s youth. He  congratulated Don Bosco institute fraternity for exemplary performance by its students in all competitive exams during consecutive past years. He admired the DBC’s commitment to discipline & uniform.

While redressing DBC grievances, he  announced a playground and a flood protection scheme assuring to include them in current fiscal year.

Taking note of NITI Aayog observation of declining education quality in Govt schools despite increase of assets and teachers, he informed that the GoAP is taking several steps in achieving quality education, including re-introducing board exam for classes V and IX, abolishing  no-detention policy while the Centre is also re-introducing board exams for classes X and XII.

WRD Minister Kamlung Mossang, in his address, thanked the DBC for offering affordable quality education, while PHED Minister Bamang Felix said education being the most powerful tool and  teachers most powerful persons, the DBC would rise to become state’s epicenter of development.

Father Jose Chemrapathy earlier recalled contributions of former CM, late Dorjee Khandu and thanked for continued support of present CM followed by cultural performances by students besides Palin Don Bosco School band enthralled the guests by talented display.

The annex earlier was blessed by Itanagar Bishop John Thomas followed by inspection by the CM. (CMO)
