NAMSAI | Oct 30 | Holy relics of Lord Buddha from Thailand arrived at Golden Pagoda (Kongmu Kham) here today.
The relics, received by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein at Mohanbari from a 13-member Thai delegation, have been given by His Supreme Holiness, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand to Golden Pagoda as a goodwill gesture to Namsai district people.
A Golden Pagoda delegation had on October 19 was in Thailand to receive the relics from Sangharaja in Bangkok. Mein and Golden Pagoda abbot Ven. Vimalatissa Mahathero had earlier written to Sangharaja for bestowing Lord Buddha relics to bless the land and people of this part of the world. The Sangharaja compassionately had consented.
Mein, while addressing the monks and devotees from both Arunachal and Assam assembled for the reception, conveyed his profound gratefulness to Sangharaja and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who had sponsored the reception. With the installation and enshrinement of the relics at the Golden Pagoda, Mein expressed optimism that this would serve as booster to spiritual tourism, in tune with GoAP’s utmost priority to the sector.
It would also strengthen socio-cultural ties between the Thai people and Tai people of NE India, who share historical and cultural affinities, he said, adding the Act East Policy would cement ties in ASEAN region. The abbot also extended similar thanks.
Thai delegate Guntalee Boonvorasset said that her colleagues were overwhelmed by response of the people and said that the delegation would take part in 7th Kathina Civara Dana of Golden Pagoda on November 3 next. (PRO)
