ITANAGAR | Arunachal Pradesh Govt is vigilant for accelerating socio-economic growth by making its people willing partners of state building, Home Minister Kumar Waii said while taking part in a discussion in nation-wide Vigilance Awareness Week observation.

He was responding to DDK anchor Pradeep Kumar’s question about the relevance of vigilance for the GoAP when its Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and chief secretary Satya Gopal have been reiterating accountability and transparency as governance mantra?

The Week ( October 30 to November 4) , themed “My Vision-Corruption Free India”, decided by the Central Vigilance Commission as part of a multi-pronged approach of the CVC with strategies to encourage all stakeholders to collectively take part in  prevention of and to fight against corruption and raise public awareness about existence, causes and gravity of and threat posed by corruption. Is your Govt toeing the principle?

Waii said the alertness of the GoAP is visible as bandh culture has become a passé during last eight month of his ministership while the crime rate has drastically come down, he said quoting official year-wise figures of cases registered and solved : 2015 –  115/64,  2016- 107/39 and 2017 – 63/14. Moreover, the younger generation has been boozing in DZ parties and night clubs and diving in late night causing many accident for which all night clubs were closed and night patrolling with alcometer was introduced at my imitative. These efforts have yielded imposition of heavy fines on traffic rule violators amounting to 2015 – Rs 8,60,650,  2016 – Rs 40,69,895 and 2017 – Rs 37,54,600, his disclosed.

“I, as part of police patrolling one night, suspended two cops for dereliction of duty while  awarded two  others for their sincerity,” he informed.

When asked about action taken to tackle insurgency affected Tirap, Changlang and  Longding districts, he said that the security forces including police have been doing their duties. But insurgents, whether NCN(K) or NSCN(IM),  are from outside the state for which he has exhorted his lawmaker colleagues of those districts to use their MLALAD funds to engage the youth in productive works so that they don’t go wayward. The police department has given special quota with age and height relaxation to recruit youth of those districts, he disclosed.

When pointed out that everyone is a consumer and the GoAP steps to punish the unscrupulous traders cheating the consumers, he said that the legal metrology & consumer affairs department has been taking the honest trades to task.

In his message to the masses, Waii said that the state being nature’s trove is not known to the world as the local media has been highlighting all negativity instead of the positive aspects. He cited the example of Kento hill in East Kameng district where he had deputed an ITPB team who at 18,000-feet height found 1,50-metre long and 854-mere wide heart touching Charen lake. Arunachal, much beautiful than Paris, would turn a global tourist hub once the reality  is known to the world, Waii said and exhorted one and all to join hands to make Arunachal one of the advanced and developed state of India.
