Arunachal to have fixed-wing air service soon: CM tells ITM

 

GUWAHATI | Dec 05 | Arunachal Pradesh to witness better air connectivity with many of the six upgraded ALGS will have fixed-wing services and hopefully scheduled flights to Guwahati, Chief Minister Pema Khandu today said.

Addressing inaugural ceremony of 6th International Tourism Mart (ITM) at Taj Vivanta here, he said an airport for state capital would be  materialised soon.

He said NE may be lacking in development but has rich cultural diversity and many other things to offer. The outlook of NE is changing fast with investors and more visitors heading to the region frequently.

Arunachal soon would have good road, air, rail and digital connectivity, he said, adding  state capital has got rail connectivity and Shatabdi Express at the imitative of PM Narendra Modi while survey and investigation for railway connectivity along foothills and higher reaches including Tawang has begun.

In all 66 foreign delegates comprising stakeholders and media persons from 29 countries and 50 domestic tourism sector stakeholders from different parts of  India are taking part in the 3-day event.

Khandu exhorted foreign delegates and domestic stakeholders to visit NE states, particularly his state to enjoy rich cultural diversity, natural beauty and rich biodiversity.

He thanked the GoI for organizing the ITM, being organized on a rotation basis and recalled that his state witnessed increase in tourist inflow since the second ITM was held in Tawang in 2013.

The mart aims to create awareness about the rich and varied tourism products of the NE region in domestic and international markets, emphasize on India’s Act East Policy, boosting ties with ASEAN and larger East Asian region.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the Mart,  being organized by Union  Tourism Ministry in association with the NE states. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal & Tourism Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, MoS (Tourism) KJ Alphons were present among other dignitaries.
