Ex-home DS no more

ITANAGAR | Jan 15| Former deputy secretary (home) Sirish Chandra Bhattacharjee left for his heavenly abode after prolonged illness at Guwahati-based Narayan super specialty hospital at 6 am on Sunday. His near and dears including daughter Dr Superna Bhattacharjee and son-in-law Dr Imbotomi Singh, both senior faculty members of Dera Natung Govt College here, besides former West Kameng district BJP president Nima Tsering were present at the death bed.

He was 89, and is survived by his son and two daughters. He was leaving with his son-in-law in DNGC campus since February 1999. His last rites were performed at Boothnath Shiv Crematorium there which was also attended by Brig Soumen Dey, Col Sumna Bhattacherjee, Dr Singh told this daily.

A well known football, badminton and tennis player to represent Assam in national level events, he had pioneered in popularising badminton and tennis in Arunachal Pradesh in mid 80s along with internationally known soccer player Indrajit Nmachoom, former chief ministers Tomo Riba and Jarbom Gamlin. An era has ended with his departure.
