ITANAGAR | Jan 29 | All victims of January 27 devastating fire of Dirang have been relieved to a great extent with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and H&F Parliamentary Secretary Phurfa Tsering besides others pitching in to offer them immediate relief.
In all 18 houses were totally gutted and 20 others including shops damaged, but Tsering on hearing the information here had apprised the CM and rushed to reach Dirang with 5½ hours to join the rescue operation.
Tsering, being Dirang MLA, had distributed Rs 65 lakh in cash, a truck-load of rice, 200 blankets and 300 CGI sheets to the victims besides announcing to help them in their rehabilitation including house building.
Tsering, who returned here Sunday night, after apprising the CM on losses caused, the rescue operation process and quantum of relief provided so far, told this daily that the CM has personally extended help while the relief from the GoAP would follow. Moreover, Dirang Employees Welfare Society and Dirang Village Council have also contributed Rs five and Rs two lakh respectively as relief, he informed.
Pointing out that heavy wind blew after the fire broke out and more than 20 LPG cylinders blasted intensifying the inferno causing huge losses as both fire tenders had taken about one hour from Bomdila through the hilly road to reach the spot, when asked why fire tenders have not been deployed at Dirang, he clarified that fire brigades have been sanctioned and deployed soon.
