RAP/ PAP relaxation: INC opposition uncalled for: BJP

ITANAGAR | Mar 30 | Reacting to APCC’s opposition to any GoI move to relax restricted area permit (RAP)/protected area permit (PAP) to encourage tourism, the BJP has termed it as uncalled and unfortunate as there is no move to completely lift them.

APCC apprehension citing the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is governed by certain acts and rules to safeguard identity and way of life of indigenous people is unfounded, the BJP said in a release.

The proposed move aims at relaxing strict rules to enable better inflow of tourists, especially foreigners as those acts restrict their visit to protected areas with given time frame and numbers. The opposition is due to ignorance in party hierarchy, which has decided to oppose just for the sake of opposition.

The Congress should realise that that such relaxation would not grant license to foreigners to buy land, settle and do business in the state, like the prevailing  the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 that protect land and rights of the indigenous communities.

NE, particularly Arunachal Pradesh has a huge potential in tourism, which if promoted can change face of the state, state economy drastically and tackle unemployment problem.

Local tour operators have been demanding such relaxation which was acknowledged by Congress Govts in the past, which the INC should retrospect besides take not of such demand form Uttarakhand, Sikkim and all NE states.

The Congress instead of looking forward is looking backwards, the BJP charged, and urged the former being a conscious and responsible political party not to mislead the people and stand on development path which the masses would not forgive.
