Tutsas celebrate Pongtu with traditional gaiety

CHANGLANG | Apr 11 | Agricultural festival Pongtu was celebrated by Tutsa community in Changlang district on Tuesday with traditional fervor and gaiety with thrilling sounds of drums and colorful traditional dances.

Numerous festivals have made the state ‘Land of Festivals’, Miao MLA-cum-Civil Supplies Minister Kamlung Mossang said, adding all festivals aim at bumper harvest and welfare of the humanity.

Just celebrating the festival, eating and drinking would not serve the purpose rather than making them involving the younger generation to be inheritors of cultures, he reasoned and stressed on educating the GenNext of tradition and cultures.

Hydropower Parliamentary Secretary Phosum Khimhun, addressing the revelers, lauded them for zealously guarding and promoting their age-old culture and exhorted to maintain the tempo for the culture to survive for posterity.

Festival should be a binding force with discriminating on the basis of case, creed and religion for others to learn, he said, adding it should promote brotherhood.
