NEIFM to take activities soon: Kumar

PASIGHAT | Apr 12 | Union AYUSH Ministry joint secretary P.N. Ranjit Kumar, chairing 4th North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM) standing finance committee meeting here today, resolved to recommend timely recruitment of doctors and scientists for scientific validation of folk medicine, expansion of other activities – cultivation/growing of herbal garden and construction of transit accommodation etc.

The meeting, aimed at accelerating NEIFM activities to serve its purpose, was attended by its director, member-secretary Pekyom Ringu, DMO Dr M. Perme, Union H&F Ministry representative Rajpal Bhatia and others.

When asked as to why NEIFM has failed to take up any cognizable activity, Kumar said that file processing is time consuming and Govt institution, takes time to pick up momentum but admitted to inordinate delay.  He informed that various activities would be taken up soon.

Ringu said that efforts are being made to realize the purpose of this national institute.

NEIFM a gift of Gowda

It may be recalled that NEIFM is a gift of H D Deve Gowda, who was the first PM to tour NE states for six consecutive days to conclude here on 21.02.08 and announced the institution to identify invaluable herbs, protect and document them to benefit the humanity. (AONS)
