Library awareness programme organized

ITANAGAR | Apr 20 | As part of its promotional activities, the department of Public Libraries, on Friday organized a library awareness programme with active involvement of school children at the State Central Library here, to promote good reading habit among the young learners.

An essay writing competition on the topic “Benefits of visiting libraries during the school vacation” was conducted among the class IX students from various schools of the state as part of the programme, a press release informed.

Pema Yudron of VKV Vivek Vihar secured first position in the competition, while Punyo Sunya of VKV Nirjuli, Bamang Arum of Auxilium School, Payal Tukaram Latane of VKV Nirjuli and Nana Phil of Immanuel Academy got second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. All the winners got cash prizes along with merit certificate.

Earlier, the Director of Public Libraries Jotom Borang inspired the young students to come to library and requested them to use library as a knowledge and learning centre.

Yajap Kena, DL&IO (Hq) highlighted the objective of today’s programme and exhorted the students to use library during the vacation period maximum. Kena also requested the parents to encourage their children to use libraries. Deputy Directors G T Jini and Y R Ete and other officers and staff were also present in the programme.
