Bifurcate Upper Siang Distt, demands TDDC

TUTING, June 18: The Tuting District Demand Committee (TDDC) in a meeting chaired by its chairmanship of Nima Sangey and attended by all people of the sub-division including PRI leaders, GBs, public leaders, officers, traders,  officials and traders on Saturday has demanded bifurcation of Upper Siang district.

The demand to make Tuting sub-division is a long cherished dream of the people as it would facilitate speedy socio-economic development along the international border, Sangey said, adding the vast geographical area isolated from district causes administrative inconvenience and hurdles desired developments. New district would be a boon as the area is of strategic importance, he reasoned.

The sub-division spread in 4,210 sqkm area, has five administrative circles – Gelling, Singa, Palling, Megging and Tuting with 50 villages having more than 10,000 population, 1580 house hold, 3 ZPMs, 17 ASMs, 63 GPMs and its 146-km boundary is along China border.  The population included Adis, Membas, Khambas and Mishmis, all STs, but despite multi-lingual, custom, tradition and culture diversity they live in peace with communal harmny.

Thus, the GoAP considering all these factors should bifurcate Upper Siang district to create a new one with its temporary HQs at Tuting, he said to justify the demand which was unanimously passed by the meeting with three resolutions, including naming the district as Tuting.
