Noted Apatani educationist, lyricist’s death mourned

 

ZIRO, June 30:  Expressing deep shock over the untimely passing away of retired principal Nani Challa on Friday evening, Popi Sarmiñ Society (PSS) conveyed its deepest sense of condolences to the bereaved family members.

Challa, borne to late Nani Kago of Reru village and served as PSS adviser till death, was noble soul, staunch protagonist of social reformation by spearheading to prohibit child marriage, inter-cast marriage, abolition of tattooing and puncturing, mode of celebration of Dree festival in unified way, PSS members recalled in a condolence meeting here.

Besides, being an educationist, he was a lyricist and composer par excellence with unique credit of scripting more than 100 songs and composition including popular Dree Flag Anthem – Ngunü Tanü ka Dree Janda Dukañ Küne Talyi and  Apatani Youth Association anthem – Tanü Nyimuñ Yapa ka besides conceptualizing to evolve pri-dance and songs.

Being a pioneer, he injected vitality into traditional art and literature of Apatani by his relentless endeavours. His first lyrics and composition of modern song –  Mundo Mundo ngunu mundo kappa doko da – was sung by late Michi Tagur at Dibrugarh AIR. His popular songs are:  More Pakku Kone Duto la, Danyi Reela byo’liñ kenda, Arro konchi hapiñ güda, Nüka henüñ aba münüñ Sado nyañ etc.

His sudden death has created a big void not only in Arunachal cultural mosaic, Apatani Society in particular, the members said and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
