Siang-Simang Angling Festival ends, scribe Yangfo wins highest catcher title

BOLENG, Aug 27: Aan (Uchi) Tangu of Pasighat in East Siang was declared winner of Siang-Simang Angling Festival conducted here in Siang district.

Tangu caught 4 fish with a cumulative weight of 27.2-kg including a trophy catch of 8.9-kg.  He won a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 60,000, which he donated to the organiser, Dosing Social Welfare Society (DSWS), for next edition of the festival.

Takom Darang from Kebang village in Siang was declared as runners-up. He caught 9 including an 8.7-kg fish. He won Rs 20,000 along with a certificate.

However, Dodum Yangfo from Itanagar was declared as winner of ‘highest number of catch’ who caught 10 fishes weighing 28.65 kg. He won Pelagic Tribe and Mustad sponsored angling gears.

Teli Bulen from Itanagar who caught 3.5-kg Chocolate Mahseer within 2 minutes of the competition was declared as the winner of ‘fastest catch’ title.

Altogether, 81 anglers various parts of the countries, including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Bangalore, New Delhi took part in the festival.

Changlang (North) MLA Tesam Pongte (chief guest), BJP leader Nalong Mize, and Siang district tourism officer  Tanyup Kopak attended the valedictory function and spoke on the conservation of flora and fauna while harnessing tourism potential of the area.

Boleng ADC Tayek Pado also attended the function among    others.

The 3-day event, organised by the DSWS in collaboration with Donyi Hango and Arunachal Anglers’ Forum, had began on August 23 last.

In total, the anglers caught 278-kg fish, including off-the-record catches by Derek D’Souza of Pelagic Tribe and Bhuto Marak of Meghalaya. While D’Souza caught 20.3-kg goonch catfish, Marak caught 18.5-kg Golden Mahseer.
