State scribes to hold rally against curtailment of press freedom

ITANAGAR, Aug 27: Arunachal Pradesh press fraternity would hold a solidarity march here on September 1 next against curtailment of the freedom of the press by the GoI and some state Govts in tune with Indian Journalists Union (IJU) proposed nationwide protest rally.

The scribes holding banners and placards would rally from Akashdeep Complex to Tennis Court in IG Park demanding introduction of pension scheme for working journalists, the way many states Govts including Assam, Tripura and Haryana have introduced.

This was decided in a general body meeting of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) on Saturday last after APUWJ president Amar Sangno and GS Ranju Dodum, who attended the IJU national executive committee meeting in New Delhi during August 18 and 19, briefed the IJU resolutions followed by brainstorming discussions.

The meeting, chaired by Sangno, also was unanimous on adoption of a formal appointment system by media houses for their employees, steps to regulate increasing number of unregulated electronic media channels and working journalists besides strict implementation of Majithia Wage Board recommendations recommendations and plea to the GoI to set up a new wage board, among others.
