ITANAGAR, Oct 10: The Table Tennis Arunachal (TTA) is all set to host maiden three-day Kalikho Pul Memorial State TT championship (KPMSTT) from October 12 next next at MLA cottage Indoor hall here.
In all 86 players from 13 districts and 4 from Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy have registered for the event, 3rd state level tournament, TTA secretary general Pasang Dingla announced during a press conference in Arunachal Press Club here today. There will be three categories – junior, sub-junior and senior (open category) for both man and woman and played during 9 am to 7 pm but without any entry fee for visitors.
Though TTA organised two editions earlier since its inception in 2010 but failed to get recognition and sponsors. However, former chief minister, late Kalikho Pul’s family pitched in with support to revive the championship, Dingla said.
As table tennis is still in its infancy, the TTA made all out effort for its success and has invited umpires – N Rupadharti Devi and Y Amos Singh and Ksh Mahendra Singh (International Blue badge’s umpire & referee) from Manipur to conduct the event.
“There will be umpire clinic session for senior players to focus on basic and internal TT rules. The clinical session will enhance the future of this sport,” he added.
The star players are open category state champion Nyader Angu and Joseph Perme (sub-junior), who had represented Arunachal in national level and received professional training from Korean coach.
However, fewer women players have registered for the event though total number is encouraging, said TTA vice president Karpu Chisi and hoped for better in future.
In all 16 districts with more than 110 players are registered under TTA and affiliated to Table Tennis Federation of India, Arunachal Olympic Association & Sports Authority of Arunachal with attachment, Chisi said and sought support of the sports lovers for success of the event.
