Good connectivity key to boost economy: CM

PASIGHAT, Oct 11: Chief Minister Pema Khandu after inaugurating a conference hall built under SIDF at Mebo ADC HQs of East Siang district on Thursday reiterated importance of good network of surface, air and rail connectivity to tap potentials in various sectors to boost economy.

Taking note of high quality works with judicious fund utilization, he lauded local MLA Lombo Tayeng and engineers’ team of executing agency PWD, saying such works should be emulated. The GoI led by PM Narendra Modi has taken bold steps to improve connectivity of NE region and completion of vital infrastructure projects, particularly in the foothill belt to pave the way for prosperity by facilitating speedy economic growth in future, he said.

The GoAP to supplement GoI’s initiative under UDAAN scheme  to provide affordable air connectivity for the masses and increase tourist inflow, has launched CM Air Connectivity Scheme to link uncovered areas besides to Aalo, Mechuka, Tuting and Walong through ALGs. Laying of airport foundation stone at Itanagar in December next would be an added advantage, he reasoned. On railway line works to connect Pasighat and foothill areas, he sought cooperation of the masses, particularly landowners for speedy execution.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by Mebo GBs pleading for steps to check massive erosion by Siang River that threatens existence of villages and agricultural land since the last two years, he assured to grant funds on priority and said that he has directed the DC to conduct survey and submit DPR soon to take up flood protection works before next monsoon season.

When Tayeng, also CM’s adviser, apprised plight of the farmers due to erosion by the river leading to dry spell and creating a drought like situation, the CM said that relief measures to mitigate sufferings of the farming community will be announced on receipt detailed report. However, on long term measures to combat erosion, he said that the GoAP has taken up the matter with the GoI. He also appreciated group captain (retd) Mohanta Panging for diverting the river from Sigar area to tackle the situation but attributed the phenomena to global warming.

DyCM Chowna Mein, in his address, sought cooperation of the people for developmental efforts with a spirit of teamwork for the benefits to reach the targeted people.  Forest & Environment Minister Nabam Rebia, state BJP president Tapir Gao, MLAs  Tapuk Taku & Gabriel D Wangsu, PWD commissioner Belatee Pertin, DC Tamiyo Tatak, SP Prashant Gautam & GBs, among others, were present.
