ITANAGAR, Oct 26: Opposition Congress leaders of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday rallied in front of CBI office here to register protest against BJP-led Govt headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for destroying all constitutional institutions of the country.
“Modi hai hai… CBI lao desh bachao…Alok Verma ko wapas lao… Modi hai hai” – slogans rented the air as hundreds of party workers holding flags led by AICC secretary Zenith Sangma, APCC president Takam Sanjoy, APMCC president Nabam Yakum, APYC president Geli Ete and NSU president Teli Millo protested.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjoy castigated PM Modi for telling blatant lies to ensure justice, equality and safety to all, provide jobs to the youth while campaigning for election but the nation has been witnessing just the reverse since he came to power in 2014. He destroyed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Election Commission of India (ECI) and Parliament, contrary to his promises, he alleged.
None should interfere in a constitutional institutions being autonomous but the RBI was made a farce by enforcing demonitisation that claimed lives of 160 poor people while standing in queue to withdraw money as all ATMs went dry while those died in hospitals are not known, he said.
In CBI, one Rakesh Asthana, a Gujarat cadre IPS officer, was posted by Modi as special director to act as an agent. When director Alok Verma started probing Rs 60,000 crore Rafale deal, Asthan informed the PMO and surprisingly Asthana and Verma were divested of their roles and sent on leave. Appointment to CBI is made by a committee headed by the PM with Leader of Opposition and SC judge as nominee of Chief Justice of India are members as per Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. When the order to send the duo on leave was issued at 2 o’clock midnight, the committee was bypassed which clearly indicated the fear of PMO that truth behind the defence deal, Sanjoy claimed.
Same is the case with the ECI while bills are passed through backdoor without respecting the procedure of the Parliament, he said, adding that SC judges in a press conference have raised questions about appointment of judges. The SC is the last resort to solve problem including conflict between the legislative and executive. But, the Congress never interfered either in judges’ appointment or meddle with any constitutional body for which the Congress party as desired by AICC has been staging such protest across the country to protect democracy and its institutions, he added.
Only the offices of PMO, President of India and media are left. But the PM, who visibly has lost his mental balance, with the prevailing situation might seek the help of President to divest him of his powers to save this great nation, he said before the effigy of the PM was burnt with slogans by the party leaders.
PM Modi had announced special package for Arunachal Pradesh during his visits to the state which remained a promise like ‘Empty vessel sounds much”, Sanjoy retorted.
Sangma, however, said that Modi Govt took the people of India for a ride and CBI has been devastated for thorough probe into Rafale deal scam, which would cost national exchequer heavily.
