British Council sign MoU with GoAP on educational & cultural collaboration

TAWANG, Oct 28:  The British Council signed an MoU with Arunachal Govt on educational & cultural collaboration here on Sunday to mark British Council’s 70th  anniversary in India and to strengthen the ties for next 70 years.

Mr. British Council India director (OBE) Alan Gemmell and GoAP  higher & technical education (H&TE) director Dr. Tayek Talom signed the MoU in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khanduto strengthen educational and cultural cooperation, to support ambition for knowledge and economic growth of Arunachal.

In all 50 faculty members of H&TE – 10 of Govt polytechnic institutes, 8 of central institutions in Arunachal and 2 H&TE officers – will be trained by British Council annually and 50 H&TE students in English language skills will be trained by the British Council  annually per the MoU.

It would also help  improving English communication of  state’s civil servants, developing their capacity-building, improving  capacity-building of faculty & senior administrators of higher education institutions in teaching Mathematics and Science and seek to increase student and academic mobility, besides celebrate rich cultural connections that Arunachal Pradesh has had with the UK.

The British Council has had a long association with NE, Arunachal in particular. It recently signed a MoU with the NEC to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation in all 8 states.

“I am very happy that we signed this MoU with British Council which will enhance the opportunities for young people in education and culture of the state, connecting them to international expertise and ideas. I am grateful for the British Council’s initiative across the NE,” Khandu said.

Gemmell said, “I’m delighted to sign this agreement with the GoAPS which will see us support to ambitions for young people.  We’ve been inspired by the vision of the CM has for the state and will support Arunachal’s world-class festivals. like Ziro and Tawang to promote state’s rich cultural heritage globally.  This MoU also supports CM’s vision to enhance human resource capacity building in higher education and subsequently in school education.” (DIPRO)
