Role of teachers vital for quality education: Tuki

DOIMUKH, Oct 31: Former CM-cum-Sagalee MLA Nabam Tuki, addressing VIth annual day celebration of Govt College  here on Wednesday, encouraged the students to make best use of the event to realize their hidden talents and find platforms to showcase their skills.

While emphasising the essence of education, Tuki, who was chief guest, stressed the role of teachers and institutions in imparting quality education and not just quantity of students, according to a college release.

Education should reach to all who seeks higher studies and internet facilities should be extensively used to connect with other colleges and universities to meet overcome shortage of subject teachers, he advised. He also stressed on compulsory skill development training in state’s all educational institutions.

Responding to grievances enlisted in a memorandum by students’ general secretary Nabam Gania, he promised to forward the same to CM, education minister and other c officers concerned for consideration.

RGU registrar-in-charge Prof. Tomo Riba, speaking as guest of honour, asked college authorities to furnish all required documents soon and assured its affiliation. He advised the students to refrain from bad habits, be disciplines and sincere in obtaining knowledge for achieving greater feat in life.

Principal Dr. M.Q. Khan, in his address earlier, lauded Tuki for his tremendous contribution for the growth and development during last six years as the college is his brain child. He highlighted various challenges including shortage of infrastructure, edible water supply and faculty members.

Trespassers and stray animals have been making inroads into campus besides theft cases for lack of an entrance gate and boundary wall, he said and sought early solution.

He also hinted about ongoing construction of hostels  and staff quarters.
