BHALUKPONG, Nov 15: PHED Minister Wangki Lowang today emphasised the need for preservation of tradition and culture to protect identity.
Addressing a huge gathering of Aka (Hrusso) community during 46th Nyetrii-Dow Festival here as chief guest, he said that time hase come to pass on our deep rooted traditional value and culture to younger generation for preservation for posterity. The children should be insisted to speak in their own dialects lest they forget, he cautioned.
He lauded the cultural extravaganza reflecting the cultural mosaic of the tribe.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the NFC for construction of festival ground, sports complex and protection from soil erosion by river, Lowang assured to take up the matters with chief minister soon.
Social worker Miali Sangchoju as guest of honour stressed the need of promotion of tradition and culture for preservation of tribal identity.
Local MLA-cum-festival chief patron Kumsi Sidisow elaborated his works in the area in the greater interest of the general public.
NFC chairman Lama Sidisow, GS Tenzing Dususow and executive member Gidu Delusow also addressed the gathering including Bhalukpong EAC T. Riba, HoDs, local leaders and other.
The festival inaugurated on November 10 by Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering and Seppa MLA Mama Natung in presence of Sidisow.
All Indigenous Tribe Forum (AITF) members led by its president Bengia Tolum and several community based organisations (CBOs) attended cultural night on Tuesday.
