Indigenous Sports & Games Meet-2018 declared open 

TEZU, Nov 24: State Level Indigenous Sports & Games Meet-2018,   first of its kind, got underway amidst traditional and sportive spirit in a glittering ceremony at Jubilee Ground here on Saturday.

Sports & Youths Affairs Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, who declared the event open as chief guest, hoped that the state youths have tremendous potential and such platform would hunt and explore hidden talent in the district level and help produce future sports star of the state. The event is organized by Arunachal Vikash Parishad (AVP).

Our youths in recent first North–East Olympic games at Imphal had excelled to win 10 gold medals for the state stood third in medal tally which is historic, he said. Citing example of athletic Hima Das, archer Limba Ram, boxers Mary Kom and Sarita Devi, he encouraged them to work hard and refrain from drugs and other anti-social activities to shine like them.

The present GoAP has embarked on a new mission for giving new thrust to games and sports and host state level badminton, karate-do, football, TT events and develop infrastructure to achieve the goal, he added.

Highlighting history indigenous sports & games which started in 1988, state AVP president Techi Gubin said that the AVP has been encouraging tribal youth who could not compete with mainland players and facilitating opportunity to for them to take part at state and national levels.

In all 200 youths from 20 districts are taking part in athletics and archery.
