My 2nd book a force multiplier to boost Indo-China ties: Gen JJ

*Duo turns nostalgic recalling past days

By Pradeep Kumar

ITANAGAR, Nov 29:  “My second book would be a force multiplier in improving bilateral Indo-China ties,” former state governor Gen (Retd) JJ Singh said during an informal interaction in Raj Bhawan here on Thursday with his close acquaintance during his tenure as governor.

Gen JJ along with his wife Anupama Singh, invited to attend ongoing Arunachal LitFest-2018, arrived here on Wednesday.

His first book – A Soldier’s Generalan autobiography, released in 12.08.14, had made him popular globally to receive invitation from aboard.   It would be worth mentioning here that India and China are embroiled in border row after 1962 Chinese aggression.

Interestingly with China’s repeated claim over Arunachal territory, New Delhi mandarins had posted Gen JJ as Arunachal Governor three days before visit of them PM Manmohan Singh’s two-day visit to Arunachal from 31.01.08. While New Delhi had focused on ‘Mission Arunachal’ with PM Singh announcing a Rs. 10,000 crore financial package to develop infrastructure and roads to make Arunachal a front ranking state within 4 to 5 years, Gen JJ, who had chosen to visit Khonsa, insurgency infested Tirap district HQs, first was instrumental in initiating posting of huge number of Army personnel to strengthen the international border.

Addressing a national seminar on “Indo-China relations”, organised by Indian Council of Social Science Research and Rajiv Gandhi University at New Delhi on 19.04.12, he had said that India should do away with its non-negotiable stand on the border dispute with China. It is important to solve India-China border dispute and for that some give and take is necessary. India will have to move away from our position that our territory is non-negotiable. The world has changed and we are a much more confident nation now. It is important to realise that we need a speedy resolution to Indo-China boundary row and for that some give-and-take may be necessary.”

When Kumar said that if China and India shack hands could rule the world, recalling his write up “Godspeed Li, if you want to win!” written on16.05.13: “If Barak Obama could seek Manmohan’s help after American economy collapsed during 2009 global meltdown and China suffered the worst, why can’t you become another Napoleon Bonaparte to draw a line on your right palm to become conquerer of humanity to rewrite history? Is Chinese and Indian blood not red? Do we not cry and laugh in the same language?

“I would urge Premier Li to accept my advice. President Pranab Mukharjee with PM Manmohan would receive him even at Bumla with ‘Vasudhaiva kutumbakam’ philosophy, and who knows he could qualify for a Peace Nobel, along with Nehruji (Posthumously). Godspeed Li, if you want to win!” Nehru’s Panchasheel and Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai had envisioned to unite both Asian giants to placate USSR and USA.

“You are absolutely right” that is the best solution in present geopolitical situation of Asia and I am confident that my book will meet your inquisitive mind”, said Gen JJ.

In fact, Kumar welcomed the duo on behalf of Arunachal Pradesh Gandhi Global Family (GGF). The state GGF unit was set up here on 27.04.12 by GGF national vice president SP Verma and national executive member Rajendra Reddy with NYP president Shri H P Biswas and vice president Pradeep Kumar as state GGF covenor and co-convenor. The same day, Gen JJ was conferred with Gandhi Seva Medal in Raj Bhawan for his invaluable contributions to the nation as Chief of Army Staff and also state governor.

The duo while interacting with this editor, Mamta Riba, Oju Welfare Association (OWA) chairperson Anya Ratan, Papum Pare DMO Dr Subu Tasso Kampu, Binny Maya’s adopted daughter Binni Kompi, former Poma anchal chairperson Techi Anna turned nostalgic.

While she reflecting her keenness inquired about OWA activities, status of receiving illegitimate children and their adoption, craft centre and skill raining etc, Ratan informed that though the number of illegitimate children has reduced but crimes and children, particularly girls have risen and OWA operating One Stop Centre receives numerous calls to rescue victims of domestic violence and sexual exploitation while renowned people are adopting from outside are adopting orphan children.

“Anyone visiting any part of Capital Complex sees to your footprints and we can never forget you both,” Dr Kampu emotionally said citing numerous examples. Dr Kampu had served two governors as medical officer.

They conveyed their inability to Anna’s request to visit Poma to disappoint her. She said that people, who have named a bridge after Gen JJ, have been impatiently waiting to receive the duo.

She disclosed that the Bamboo  processing centre set by him at Poma was functioning actively while Papum Poma  had turned a famous picnic spot while Papum Poma   River Festival is going on now.

“We assure to visit soon again soon to visit various places of the state,” they said before their emotional departure.
