NAHARLAGUN, Dec 29: The Nyishi Art & Culture Welfare Society (NACWS) representative Runka Cheda, accompanied by renowned artist Neelam Pope, launched Longte Festival the website (www.longtefestival.in.) during Central Longte Committee (CLC) general conference here on Saturday.
Outgoing GS Amit Bengia highlighted triennial report (2016-18) of CLC and enlisted all success stories and challenges in promotion of oldest festival of the community. He informed that CLC was the first amongst all festival committees of the state to discourage accepting gifts in cash or kind from the chief guest/guest of honour for the festival since 2011. Longte festival does not involve any bloodshed by sacrificing animal and birds during the festival season, he said and exhorted one and all to maintain social taboos associated with the festival.
The meeting, presided over by CLC chairman Lokam Kani, unanimously approved recommendation of search committee headed by Tarh Tabin for various office bearers, including Chera Sanjeev (chairman), Pawan Bagang (vice chairman), Lokam Mangha (GS) and Tadar Zaman (AGS) for 2019-21 session of CLC.
The daylong conference, attended by delegates from different walks of life, was marked with brainstorming session on adoption of bye-law and debate on finding ways and means to promote and preserve Nyishi common cultural legacy.
