Hollongi Greenfield Airport gets finance ministry nod

ITANAGAR, Jan 11: The dream of an airport in state capital will become a reality soon as the PIB meeting of finance ministry cleared Greenfield Airport proposal at Hollongi on Friday which could be possible due to regular monitoring and follow up by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The meeting after detailed deliberations on each item gave the nod for the project with estimated cost of Rs.1043 crore, including Rs.955.37crore and Rs 87 crore central and state share respectively. The airport to be built as a state-of-the-art infrastructure would propel economic development besides improving connectivity for local population and boosting tourism.

The PIB after very detailed discussion approved the land acquisition rate as proposed by the committee and endorsed by the GoAP. However, the PIB noted that it shall be the responsibility of the GoAP to hand over the land free of all encumbrances to the AAI and within four-year target.

It may be mentioned here that the steering committee of civil aviation ministry on receipt of environment clearance from environment & forest ministry, had on 28.12.18 had cleared the proposal.

“It is matter of great joy for Team Arunachal that the decades-old dream for own airport has been realised. I thank prime minister and the GoI for their unstinted support to ensure this project see the light of the day”, a visibly overjoyed Khandu quipped. (CMO)
