DOIMUKH, Jan 12: Arunchalees are inborn lovers of sports and games for which there is no dearth of sports talents in the state, said director general of police S B K Singh in his inaugural address to 14-day 6th Veterans’ State Level Veteran Cup Football Tournament at Rono ground here on Saturday.
This is a unique initiative to develop pan-Arunachal identity through 10 participating teams involving numerous tribes, particularly 26 major ones, from across the state, he said.
“I appreciate E&K’s and Capital Complex Sporting Club headed by entrepreneur Toko Tatung aka Praksh for the endeavour and wish it a grand success,” the DGP said as chief guest.
RGU’s mass communication department HoD Prof Kh Kabi, as guest of honour, urged the players to adopt sportsmanship spirit as honest sports persons as winning and defeat is immaterial but the game.
Hundreds of local sports lovers, who were watching the inaugural match between APP team and Laba Football Club, applauded thunderously when Nabam Bapu (jersey No17 of Laba FC) scored lone goal to defeat rival APP just before the whittle was blown as announced by anchor Pei Chandra Murtem. However, LABA FC’s Tadar Kochang was felicitated as man of the match.
Tommor’s match: 1st – NCFI vs Itanagar United FC at 12 noon and 2nd – Arunachal United FC vs EKSC from 2 pm.
