NEW DELHI, Feb 13: The GoI failed to table Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB) in Rajya Sabha on the concluding day on Wednesday due to “our united and concerted efforts”, North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), said in a release and termed it as a ‘moral victory’.
It congratulated indigenous people of NE, its federal bodies – Khasi Students’ Union, All Assam Students’ Union, Naga Students’ Federation, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Twipra Students’ Federation, All Manipur Students’ Union, Garo Students’ Unio and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) – for working very hard to oppose this draconian CAB.
It also thanked state Govts of Meghalaya led by Chief Minister Conrad A Sangma, Mizoram led by Zoramthanga, social and women organizations besides Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for adopting a resolution in JD(U) national executive council against the CAB and political parties, including Shiv Sena, Congress, SP, BJD, TMC, DMK, SAD, NPP, AGP, TDP & BPF for extending their unstinted support.
However, it strongly warned the GoI not to adopt, implement policies which is detrimental to interest of indigenous NE people, said the release signed by chairman Samuel Jyrwa & secretary general Sinam Prakash.
Meanwhile, wholeheartedly welcoming non-passing of CAB by the Rajya Sabha to bulldoz tactics of present BJP-led Union Govt, AAPSU president Hawa Bagang and GS Tobom Dai have termed it as a “huge victory” for the people of NE, Arunachal in particular and urged the GoI not to evolve such anti-people’s Bill again.
