PMC to charge for garbage collection

PASIGHAT, Apr 26: “The quest for clean Pasighat has more complicated with steady urbanization putting pressure on prevailing system and more affluent consumers produce ever-higher volumes of trash, said DC East Siang DC Dr. Kinny Singh.

Addressing a coordination meeting on the issue here on Thursday, she said the neglect of social housing, sanitation etc have ensured that there is nothing like truly clean city and sought coordinated efforts of all stakeholders for successful implementation of door to door solid waste collection to make Pasighat a clean city.

She stressed on immediate identification of common collection points for garbage at wards level with proper signage for convenience of the citizens and need for educating the people on segregation of garbage. The administrative and Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC)  officers should offer  handholding support to the functionaries at household level as a part of awareness generation, she said and directed PMC EE to prepare roster of staffs for regular street sweeping.

Traffic congestion is one of the most vexing problems involving numerous factors which cannot be addressed without a holistic approach, she said and called for regulating traffic flow to ease congestion problem. Proper land use planning with pay-parking system was essential to tackle congestion and a desirable solution to this chronic traffic menace, she said and directed to introduce parking charges (category/time wise) within the designated parking lots.

Earlier, Donyi Ane NGO chairman Paktin Bagbi informed that GPS tracking system would be installed in all sanitary vehicles by PMC soon besides carried by labourers to monitor and ensure efficiency.

The standard operating procedure for door to door garbage collection was discussed in detail including role of supervisors and deployment of sanitary trucks. The PMC engineers were instructed to take a round of their wards to ensure that the city is spic and span. (DIPRO)
