RGU expands academic wing, creates 10% more seats

RONO HILLS, May 16: Rajiv Gandhi University under the guidance of new vice chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha has taken bold steps for academic expansion to offer students wide ranges of choices for higher education.

It has been decided to introduce MA (defense and strategic studies) under its newly opened national security studies department and MA (tribal studies) under Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies with 16 seats each. Moreover, in tune with GoI directive the RGU like central universities will create additional 10% seats in each programme in diploma, bachelors and PG level courses exclusively for economically weaker section (EWS) category candidates and plans to earmark a supernumerary seat for foreign nationals in each PG level programme, according to a RGU release.

With the RGU getting ready to conduct entrance examinations – RGUMPET-2019 and RGUCET-2019 at five designated centers for 1796 (PhD, M.Phil, PG & under graduate, PG diploma and certificate) courses, 2000 candidates registering till Thursday evening indicating rising demand for higher education in this remote part of India. Those appearing in final semester/year examinations of degree courses are eligible to apply for above exams, which will have 100 multiple choice questions.

Toeing Digital India initiative, the varsity has made a difference   by offering online admission portal since May 9 last. The decision to go for online admission was taken in last academic council meeting chaired by VC Prof. Kushwaha, according to joint registrar (academic) Dr. David Pertin. He also appraised about exams process to Prof.  Kushwaha, who confidently said that the RGU will strive to be among top performing varsities of India.

The online application submission which started on 9th May will culminate on 8th June for RGUCET-2019, while for RGUMPET-2019 the last date has been fixed for the 24th May, 2019 for online application submission. Selection through entrance in all departments including physical tests, personal interviews and Group Discussions in departments like Physical Education, Mass Communication and Management and their final admissions shall be completed latest by August 2nd, 2019.

The RGU ranked among top 100 universities among 907 universities in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework of MHRD has all the potentialities despite its numerous bottlenecks, registrar in-charge Prof. Tomo Riba said.

A six-member technical committee headed by Prof Utpal Bhattacharjee (CSE department) and a 12-member central co-ordination committee for common entrance tests with Prof Sushanta Kumar Nayak (economics department) have also been constituted to deal with various technicalities and practical issues, he release added.
