ITANAGAR, May 23: Late NPP MLA Triong Aboh who was locked in a straight contest with Phawang Lowang (BJP) won from Khonsa West seat with 971 votes as Aboh polled 5147 and Lowang 4176.
Regrettably, Aboh was proceeding from Deomali to Khonsa on May 21 for counting when his four-vehicle cascade was ambushed by suspected NSCN (IM) cadres at Bogapani village around 11.30 am and 11 of the total 15 occupants, including Aboh were massacred.
Deputy chief electoral officer Liken Koyu said that counting as schedule would be conducted. If Lowang wins the result will be final. But, if Aboh is elected, the seat will be declared vacant and by-election will be conducted within six months as per Election Commission of India guidelines.
It may be mentioned here that the GoAP has declared one-day mourning on May 24 when the last rites of 11 deceased including Aboh would be conducted. As he was a sitting MLA, guard of honour by state police would be accorded according to state chief secretary Satya Gopal.
