Tree plantation drive marks Van Mahotsav 

NAMSAI, July 04: A massive plantation drive and free distribution of saplings marked Van Mahotsav celebration here on Thursday.

Lekang MLA S Jummum Ete Deori, DC Dr. Tapasya Raghav, HoDs and NGO representatives took part in the  drive.

Deori urged forest department for more such plantation drives to schools and panchayats to inculcate a sense of combating global warming in the minds of students and villagers. Dr Raghav exhorted one and all to plant trees in their houses and offices to spread the importance of afforestation so that present generation leaves something for their future generation. She asked all not limit themselves to planting saplings but take their care too.

More than 100 saplings were planted and the department will continue such programmes throughout the week, according to an official release.

DIPRO adds from Tawang: “Tree means water, water means oxygen and without oxygen there is no life” DFO Sange Tsering told students of Tawang Public School(TPS) during plantation drive on Wednesday as part of  week-long Van Mahotsava saptah.

Army Brigade had begun the drive in and around its HQs here on July 2 last. The drive hjas been taken up  in collaboration with Environmental Protection Society (EPS), working in Tawang and other parts of the country for protection of environment.

On the second day of week long plantation drive, Smti Nima Drema, wife of Tawang MLA  Tsering Tashi also took part in the drive with senior officers, police, public leaders and  students. More than 200 saplings were planted near TPS School campus,  EPS president Jambey Dondu said.

Tsering and Dondu have urged the people to plant at least one tree in their surroundings during and take their care. Let us handover a better and pollution free society to our coming generation, they added.
