Assam-based drug peddler arrested

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: A Roing Police team led by Anti-Drug Squad nodal officer SI S.S Jha, under the leadership of Roing police station OC inspector Nyumyum Sora and DySP (HQ) Ringu Ngupok arrested a drug supplier, namely Gobinda Gogoi of Chapakowa in Assam on Sunday.

The peddler has been supplying drugs to youth of Roing township, headquarters of Lower Dibang Valley district, for last few years after obtaining it from his Assam and Arunachal Pradesh sources but has been escaping the police dragnet.

The police team had picked up few local boys who were found consuming drugs during regular patrolling and during interrogation they admitted purchasing drugs from Gogoi, the police said, adding a trap was laid on Saturday afternoon, but the peddler was arrested after a chase in Shantipur area and around 50-grms narcotics substance was seized from his possession.

A case (No-66/19) u/s 21(b) NDPS Act has been    registered with Roing PS and SI T Hagging has been named as investigating officer, the OC said.

While congratulating the team for its success, SP Sanjay Kumar Sain reiterated the resolve to make Lower Dibang Valley a drug free district and sought support of all stakeholders in its mission.

It may be recalled that police launched crackdown on drug peddlers in the region leading to arrest of eight peddlers nabbed during last one month and recovery of 200-grms brown sugar from them, Sain added.
