NAHARLAGUN, Sept 29: Continuing its endeavour to free Capital Complex from drug menace, Capital Complex Police arrested Manu Barman and Lokam Lulu to burst drug racket operating in for some times.
A Naharlagun PS team consisting of OC inspector K Yangfo, SIs Binam Pertin & Giogi Tape led by SDPO Rike Kamsi, while patrolling in and around the township around 9 pm on Saturday saw four persons in an inebriated condition and suspected to have consumed drugs, SP Tumme Amo said.
There were Kajal Mandal, 25, S/o Subahs Mandal; Rajesh Mandal, 21, S/o late Abhilash Mandal and Manu Barman, 23, S/o Kartick Barman of Barapani – near Barapani Bridge and Tojing Binggeb, 24, S/o Adoli near Little Rose school. They were stopped and some quantity of suspected heroin (NDPS substance) was seized from Manu Barman.
When interrogated, Kajal, Subash and Tojing disclosed that they got heroin from their accomplice Manu. On further interrogation, Manu revealed that he had bought it from one Lokam Lulu, S/o of Koloriang MLA Lokam Tassar, presently living in Damsite, Naharlagun. The SP has been receiving inputs about his (lulu) involvement in drug trafficking for last few months and one raid in July in his house was unsuccessful.
On receiving the information, SP had constituted the police team, which had raided the Lulu’s Damsite residence when he was found absent. However, search was conducted in presence of his family members, but no any contraband drug was found.
On further inquiry, the family members had informed that Lulu is staying with his wife Dagbi Rime in the residence of retired senior GoAP officer Gumdak Rime. Thus, the team under close monitoring of SP and ASP Harsh Indora, conducted search in his residence on Sunday at around 2.30 pm when little more than 10-grms of suspected heroin, cash Rs. 97,500, suspected to be the sale proceeds of drugs & large numbers of empty vials etc were recovered.
Lulu admitted that the recovered suspected heroin belonged to him. As per direction of SP, executive magistrate Laxmi Dodu, was also called and seizure was made in her presence.
A case vide Naharkgu PS case (No. 165/19) U/S 21(b) of NDPS Act was registered and accused Manu Barman and Lokam Lulu were arrested. Investigation was launched to track source of recovered drugs, SP Amo added.
