Border trade could boost local economy: Governor tells Simai

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: Border trade is an effective mechanism to boost local economy and social development, especially along international borders of Arunachal Pradesh, Governor Brig. (Retd) B.D. Mishra (Retd) told Nampong MLA Laisam Simai, who called on the former at Raj Bhavan here Thursday,

They discussed about border trade with Pangsau Pass (Myanmar), 13.5-km  from Nampong in Changlang district, when Dr Mishra said that border trade route with Myanmar will help boost local economy and promote cultural exchanges between both neighbouring nations. He advised Simai to take initiative to start it soon.

Dr Mishra, who had visited border trade centre at Nampong, suggested him to lead a study group to Moreh in Manipur to make Pangsau Pass border huts more effective and secured. The governor also spoke to his Manipur counterpart Najma Heptulla to facilitate visit of a team including Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte and Simai to Moreh, located along India-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.

Suggesting proper facilities for border trade and tourists to visit Pangsau Pass, he advised Simai to develop homestays provisions during Pangsau Pass Festival at Nampong. (PRO)
