NAHARLAGUN, Oct 04: CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST) branch here conducted an awareness programme on “Conservation, cultivation, sustainable utilization and medicinal plant and mushroom in Liromoba circle of West Siang district on Friday.
The programme, in collaboration with Siang Farmers Federation (SFF) and Liromoda Farmers Club (LFC), benefited about 65 farmers and local healers.
Highlighting various ongoing activities, CSIR-NEIST principal scientist Dr. Chandan Tamuly, spoke on importance of Zanthroxylun armatum and its pharmaceutical value and assured to provide technical support to the farmers as per requirement.
Sr technical officer Dr Budhen C Baruah, as resource person, spoke on “Cultivation of mushroom and production of vermicompost” followed by demonstration on technique for preparation of mushroom.
SFF secretary Naykar Raksap and LFC secretary Komjum Romin exhorted the farmers to take the advantage of the programme in their own interest.
Anti-arthritis ointment, a herbal product developed by CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat was also distributed among the farmers under project CSIR-Aroma Mission, according to an official release.
