CS asks 5 districts to adopt Lohit agri-horti model

ITANAGAR, Nov 07: Realizing the huge potential of in Arunachal Pradesh, chief secretary had convened a meeting here on Thursday to adopt a comprehensive model developed by Lohit district administration.

Citing comprehensive agri-horti and allied sector model developed by Lohit district administration as an example, chief secretary Naresh Kumar on Thursday said that it could bring a revolution on the line of Green and White Revolutions in the state to enhance speedy growth of the sectors.

Lohit DA has set up Lohit Agricultural Farmer Producer Organization, a cooperative society of farmers, making it responsible to market farmers’ all agri-horti products, like organic Lohit rice, green tea, large cardamom, cinnamon, oranges, turmeric etc, he said, adding these products are also sold online through www.lohitfarmers.org with e-payment.

It has created a huge opportunity for local agri entrepreneurs for income generation to contribute to rural prosperity, he reasoned.

Considering the vast land resource available, favorable agri-horti climatic condition, he identified West Kameng, East Kameng, West Siang, East Siang and Lower Dibang Valley districts to adopt the model to boost income generation of farmers. He however welcomed customization and modification to suit the specific district.

He sought support of secretaries Bidol Tayeng (agri-horti), Himanshu Gupta (planning), Mimum Tayeng (AH&VS), NABARD GM Dr. G.K. Nair, Spice Board representatives, directors and officers of agri-horti
