DySP murder accused killed in police firing

ITANAGAR, Jan 18: Tagyung Yangfo alias Jombo Yangfo, accused of killing deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bomto Kamdak  in 2016 and carrying a reward for information leading to his arrest, was reportedly killed in an encounter at Rama Camp, Dirang in West Kameng district on Saturday morning.

Kamdak, posted as a DSP in East Kameng district, was killed in an exchange of gunfire between the police and miscreants at Seppa on 13.08.16.

DGP RP Upadhyay told media persons in PHQ here on Saturday that a police team led by crime branch SP Navdeep Brar tacked him and asked to surrender but he fired upon the police party. That prompted police to fire in self-defence in which he suffered gunshot injuries and died on the way to hospital,” Upadhyay said, adding one bullet hit the bullet proof jacket of the SP during exchange of fire.

Yangfo, a history-sheeter, had earlier escaped from police custody and was hiding in his wife’s place at Chyangtajo when the police team led by Kamdak went in search of him. Yangfo suddenly opened fire when the team tried to arrest him. In the exchange of gunfire another person was also killed and two others were injured, including a woman with three bullet injuries in her chest and airlifted to Guwahati,

Kamdak, 31, a 2012 batch Arunachal Pradesh Police Service officer, had a B Tech (IT) degree and hailed from Basar in West Siang district then. He was survived by his wife Moyir and an 11-month-old son.

Late Kamdak was posthumously conferred with the first Arunachal Ratna Award, carrying Rs one lakh in cash, a gold medal and a citation, instituted on Independence Day- 2016. Moreover, honouring public demand, the GoAP had appointed Moyir as DSP n compassionate ground.
