No corona virus case found in Arunachal

NAHARLAGUN, Jan 30: No suspected case of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) reported from Arunachal Pradesh, health services director Dr M Lego said quoting outcome of monitoring by state’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).

A new strain of coronavirus linked to cases of respiratory tract infections in Wuhan of China’s Hubei province has been spreading too for which the H&FW department has geared up for early detection and containment, state epidemiologist-cum-IDSP SSO Dr. L. Jampa said in a release.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic and transmitted between animals and humans. Once in humans this virus has shown capacity for transmission from human to human. Most common signs and symptoms include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia and even fatal complications. There is no specific treatment or vaccine available for the disease but are treated symptomatically now.

What should people do?:  In general, and most importantlyeveryone should always use basic hand and respiratory hygiene, including – washing hands frequently with soap & water or alcohol-based rub; covering mouth & nose when coughing or sneezing; avoiding unprotected close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms; seeking medical care if one has fever, cough & difficulty in breathing & avoid direct unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals when visiting markets.

Masks may be effective if they are used correctly, however, this measure alone is not sufficient and, if used, should be combined with the above.

Persons who develop symptoms and have a history of travel to Wuhan and any other country within 15 days with any symptomatics should consult doctors and share this information with their healthcare provider.

State and district surveillance units of HFW department (H&FWD) have been activated and will remain vigilant to the developments. Mechanism for surveillance and contact tracing has been put in place through IDSP, the release added.
