Arunachalees attacked on trivial issue, alleges APCC

ITANAGAR, Feb 28: Taking strong exception to barbaric attack of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) secretary Modam Dini, his wife & two others after the car carrying them collided with a car causing minor scratch in Dibrugarh on February 18 last.

But, Rs 30,000 was forcefully taken from Dini on behalf of so called Dibrugarh police station officer-in-charge, APCC general secretary-cum-spokesperson Chera Taya claimed, in a press release, adding an FIR about the accident was  accepted only after the victims brought it to the notice of Dibrugarh SP on February 21 last.

Dini had contested from Likabali assembly constituency in bye-election in 2018, he said while taking strong exception to such merciless attack and extortion of Arunachalees. Accidents & road rages are uncertain and can occur anywhere involving anyone, he said and alleged that such attacks have become a regular feature after the completion of Bogibeel Bridge.

Taya urged the state government to take up the matter with its Assam counterparts to ensure safety of Arunachalees travelling in Assam as “Assam police, particularly people, treat vehicles with Arunachal registration number as mulching cow”.

Such attacks are very common in Assam-Arunachal boundary areas, like Banderdewa-Harmuty, Deju-Puhumara in North Lakhimpur district, Silapathar in Dhemaji District, Balipara-Charduar in Sonitpur district, the release claimed.

It is high time for the state government to raise the issue with Assam government, being ruled by same part BJP including in the Centre before it is too late, Taya cautioned.
