PASIGHAT, May 23: Siang River water level has been rising due to torrential rain for last few days and rose to 150.61 meter, just below danger level of 153.96 meter till Satirday evening.
This is highest ever rise recorded in the early monsoon this year, a water resource department official said, adding Seram villagers were shifted to safer places last year due to flash flood in the river while Mebo sub-division he villagers had build a protection wall to divert water flow to protect their houses and agriculture. However, an alert notice has been served to dwellers of the said area not to panic as water level is still below the danger point.
DIPRO adds: East Siang deputy commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh has directed all officers to remain alert to guide the people and health department to stock lifesaving medicines.
However, people living in low laying areas on both banks,like Jarku, Paglek, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing and Mer have been alerted to adopt safety measures.
The DA has also has cautioned the people not to venture into the river for any reason, including fishing, swimming, collect driftwood, uprooted vegetative and anyone found violating would face action u/s 188 IPC and other laws.
