Capital Police bust car racket, seizes 26

ITANAGAR, Jun 04: Capital Complex Police have busted a car theft racket with seizure of 26 luxury cars, including 22 stolen Toyota Fortuner, two each Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta, SP Tumme Amo told media persons here on Thursday.

Two vehicle dealers were also arrested on January 22 last with recovery of 11 and 3 vehicles respectively but both are out on bail, he said.

On getting inputs and complaints about many stolen vehicles and many with fake registration numbers have been plying in Capital Complex, a police team led by Itanagar SDPO DySP K. Sikom, and SI N. Nisant had swung into action since December last.

But, during probe it was found that maximum vehicles were stolen from Delhi, Haryana, Gujrat and Punjab etc against which were registered with different police stations, he said, adding the details of 20 stolen vehicles  while one was robbed while 5 yet not known. Moreover, chassis number of 5 vehicles was while th vehicle lifter gang was more active in Delhi.

Stating that the buyers of second and third-hand vehicles with forged documents can be charged u/s 411 of IPC with a provision of minimum of 3-year imprisonment, he disclosed names of 18 buyers. Moreover, few vehicles were found abandoned whose owners are not known, he said.  Six registration numbers cross of Capital Complex and four of Kurung Kumey were found from respective DTO as fake, he added.

All vehicles after would be deposited in the court to decide, he said and lauded the informers for their help but added that the still investigation including with other states police was still on.
