20 of 1947 tested in ICR found positive: DMO

Twenty of total 1947 people tested for COVID-19 in Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) on Wednesday tested positive, said DMO Dr Mandip Perme, adding the rapid response team conducted 1499 tests in 20 wards of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) when 12 positive cases were detected.

Briefing about the statistics, he said that six more positive cases were detected at Lekhi state quarantine centre, one each at TRIHMS testing centre and Banderdewa check gate. While no positive has been reported from 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 wards in Itanagar since antigen test begun on July 10. Thus, six rapid response testing teams (RRTT) would be deployed in areas where more cases have been reported for speedy tests, he informed.

Expressing concern over people staying in Covid care centre (CCC) and spreading wrong message about the virus, he exhorted them to refrain from spreading rumours that would misguide the people. Random antigen test of people living in containment zone will start soon; he said and urged people not to venture out of containment zone for tests.

“Asymptomatic patients are kept in CCC so that they don’t spread viruses to others. It’s true they don’t face any health threat and do not need medicine for treatment. But they can become carriers and spread it to those people for whom COVID might be fatal, especially those having serious health issues along with citizens above 60 years and children below10-year old,” he said, adding serious patients are referred to TRIHMS.

However, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I) vice president Pawan Bagang regretted that instead of door to door test, some centers were identified in Itanagar area for the people to come and get tested from the RRTT. The people have hesitated to visit those centres for which the number of tests have drastically reduced in comparison to Naharlgun, he said and exhorted the people to get them tested.

Containment Zone decaled

After detection of several positive cases in Naharlagun areas, ICR DC has declared  Ward No 16 covering SBI, treasury office/mini secretariat, G-Extension, F-Sector near Court area, Revival Church/Y T Hotel, G & F-Sector, near Gurudwara, Power House Colony & Rural Bank Line as containment zone to be barricaded by police and prohibits entry/exit.

Moreover, sanitization of the areas shall be carried out as and when required by the IMC, said the order, to remain in force till further order.

Opposing containment order, many residents, including few retired doctors told this daily over telephone that containment is no solution to spread of the disease. If essential commodities become scarce that would be ‘super covid’ to snatch everything from the poor masses living in those containment zone.
