NAHARLAGUN, Oct 27: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) and State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) under Health Services directorate observed October as Voluntary Blood Donation Month by organising various activities to promote voluntary blood donation in the state.
The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (NVBDD) is observed on October 1 annually and this year’s the theme was “Let’s donate blood voluntarily and contribute to the fight against Corona”.
An online poster making competition was organised on voluntary blood donation in which 46 from across the state took park to mark the day.
One Riknya Kamcham with more than 2,826 social media engagement in the form of likes and shares emerged as topper while Phunglanthong Patton with 2,301 social media engagement and Lobsang Choikey with 866 social media engagements were adjudged as 1st and 2nd runner-up respectively.
The winners received cash award and certificate each- topper Rs. 10,000 while 1st and 2nd runner-up Rs. 7000 and Rs. 5000 respectively.
APSACS project director Dr. Riken Rina, in his address, said that social media has turned out to be an excellent platform to involve youth in various awareness activities during ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While congratulating the winners, he asked the youth to use electronic media in creating awareness about HIV/AIDS, voluntary blood donations and other diseases where information is very crucial.

While highlighting importance of this online event, APSACS & SBTC Dy. director (IEC) Tashor Pali said it aimed at generating mass awareness on voluntary blood donation and HIV/AIDS. More of such online events will be conducted soon and asked the youth to take part in large number. APSACS Dy. Director (BSD) Dr. Annong Borang also spoke, according to an APSACS release.
