BHALUKPONG, Dec 28: Kameng River wears a new look now  as garbage and solid waste were collected during a day-long ‘cleanliness and awareness drive’ was from Dwang Gate covering over 3-km in Tippi area of West Kameng district on Saturday.

The staff of

District administration, local leaders and community members were involved in the drive by Khellong Forest division that also saw seizure of nets/sticks used for hunting.

The participants also gave awareness about adverse affects of plastic and other waste on the ecosystem and educated Bhalukpong and Tippi community members about sustainable fishing practices.

Tippi range office I/c IFS probationer Ankit Kumarled the team under the guidance Khellong forest division DFO V.K Jawal.

Kumar inform that high influx of tourists during tourist season creates problem of plastic waste management along the river shores. The uncollected plastic waste in natural environment eventually ends in human food and bodies. Thus, such drive will encourage the local to maintain hygiene and keep water source of river clean, he said, adding a  special awareness drive will be conducted for tourists next week to make them more responsive towards the nature.
