ITANAGAR, Jan 22: Recalling contributions of late Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing Khathing, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig. (Retd.) B. D. Mishra during his meeting with his daughter Sela N Khathing at Shillong on Friday, said that he was a highly decorated and gallant officer.
He had established India’s administrative functioning over Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on February 14, 1951 by hoisting the tri-colour there, he said, adding the people of Arunachal Pradesh, Tawang in particular, l still remember Major Khathing with respect for being the sole Indian official to visit their place when the Chinese expansionist threat was looming large.
One of the great stalwarts of North East, his greetings in Jai Hind in true India spirit still motivate the people. He lauded Chief Minister Pema Khandu for announcing to recognize his contributions by building a memorial.
The Governor invited family members of Major Khathing, winner of Military Cross in World War II, to the state as state guests.
CM Khandu and governor’s wife Neelam Misra were also present.
