Plantation drive marks NGCD celebration

ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Advocating protection of rights of girl child, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Gumri Ringu, in her address to National Girl Child Day (NGCD) celebration here on Sunday, focused on their safety, education, equality, prevention of gender discrimination in tune with Child Protection Act and PCPNDT Act.

The Day part of week-long Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week is being celebrated since January 21 by WCD department in collaboration with APSCW, APSCPCR and other departments by involving students, guardians and officials.  Tree plantation drive and awareness on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao were main thrust.

Stressing on socio-economic empowerment of girl children, APSCW chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi called for focused determination to make them self- sufficient. She also sought free compulsory education of girls, discouraging early marriage, abolish prevailing dowry and reservation for women in assembly, PRI and Govt jobs.
